Summary
Even a decade after its release, Simon Sinek's message in "Start with Why" is still applicable to our current society. The book highlights how identifying your 'why' aligns with our deeper search for brands and leaders who reflect our values and lifestyle choices.
Sinek explains this through the "Golden Circle." Consider Apple: their 'why' is challenging the status quo through innovative technology. Their 'how' is demonstrated through intuitive design and integration. The 'what' – their computers and devices – becomes the result. This is why I am a strong advocate for Apple devices because of my admiration for their longevity and elegant design, both in terms of hardware and software.
"Start with Why" also prompts us to establish purpose-driven goals aligned with our core beliefs. As consumers, we're increasingly drawn to companies that mirror our lifestyle choices. This book helped me to understand how to unlock loyalty and long-term success from others. Sinek's work made me reflect on where my own values intersect with the brands I choose and the career path I want to build.
How do I know about this
Here's how I first learned about this concept: It was introduced through my school's initiative for team and cultural building. They invited Dr. Victor Wong (my teenage inspiration and youth leader) to develop a few cultural aspects and themes of successful organizations based on Simon Sinek's work.

Reflection
Simon Sinek is undoubtedly a keen observer of successful businesses, and his ability to analyze their triumphs is engaging. However, "Start with Why" presents case studies more than a specific formula for replication. The book doesn't show if Sinek himself applied these principles to achieve the same level of success as the giants like Apple that he profiles. While emphasizing the importance of finding your 'why', the book lacks concrete tools for translating inspiration into action.
